Speeko’s goal-based onboarding personalizes user experience

Speeko is an app that is trying to turn you into a public speaking superstar using AI. But not every public speaker wants the same thing or has the same issues holding them back from achieving their goals. Speeko uses goal-based onboarding to create a personalized learning plan for each of their users, so their product is primed to produce meaningful results fast.

It starts with asking users about what they’re using this app for: work, school, or personal growth.

It then asks you how confident you are with speaking in public. Are you a regular chatterbox or a shrinking violet?

Finally, it wants to know when the best time is for you to practice. No one likes a push notification when you’re in the middle of meetings or class. With this knowledge, Speeko can make sure it prompts you when you’re free, so you’re more likely to use their app.

Once it’s asked you all of its questions, it parrots it all back to you, so you can check that it’s optimized for your personal growth.

Why this is really good UX:

  • Explanations after each question tell you why they are asking questions about you, so you know they’re using this data to give you a better experience.
  • Asking users these questions upfront instead of learning their habits/preferences over time through their app use means that people hit the ground running. There is no time wasted, which will reduce the chance of people churning right away.
